I learned to knit in October of 2005. Of course my first project was a scarf, although I quickly moved on to other projects. My sister-in-law was pregnant with the first boy of the family, and knowing other family members were making baby blankets, I decided on a sweater. I just love Debbie Bliss patterns for children. I selected the cute Hooded Sweater from Debbie Bliss’s book Special Knits using her Cashmerino Aran in 502. It was such a hit, I’ve since made 2 others for friends kids. I knit the second one with modifications. I changed the yarn to Berroco’s Cotton Twist in color 8357 (a cotton/rayon blend) and added a seed stitch border to the bottom and sleeves. I also purled a square in the middle to which I attached a crochet flower. Just perfect for a little girl. This last one also had modifications to the yarn and pattern.

I used Cascade’s Pima Tencel in color 1693, for a little boy of course. I added a simple purl border to the bottom and sleeves. This time I hand stitched the outline of a sailboat across the chest (it matches the hand painted clothes hanger). By the way, I embellished the wood hanger as part of the baby shower gift.
The pattern is very easy to knit, and such a sweet gift. I had fun with all the modifications which kept each project fresh. I tend to get bored doing the same thing over and over. I’ll upload pictures of the other two sweaters soon.
